Here is basic information concerning Metro Nazarene School of Ministry and the Course of Study for ordination in the Church of the  Nazarene -

The Purpose of Metro Nazarene School of Ministry (MNSM) is to provide men and women with the basic training needed for effective Christian ministry.  As a member of  the Alliance for Ministry Training Centers, MNSM offers a curriculum that meets the educational requirements for ordination in the Church of the Nazarene.  Courses will reflect its Wesleyan-Arminian heritage and ministry  practices.  MNSM endeavors to address not only the issues of current scholarship but also those of cross-cultural ministry as experienced in a metropolitan area like New York City.

The Governance and Affiliation of MNSM operates under the immediate direction of a Board of Governors appointed by the Advisory Board of the Metro New York  District of the Church of the Nazarene.  As a member of the Alliance for  Ministry Development, MNSM follows its educational standards which as developed in affiliation with Nazarene Bible College.

Class Locations for courses can vary according to the make-up of any given class.  However, classes in English are taught primarily in White Plains, NY. Classes  are taught in Spanish in Richmond Hill, NY and Jersey City, NJ.

Quarterly Courses begin the first week of September, December, March and June. Classes meet once each week for 11 weeks.  Each class session is 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Tuition is $130 per course. Book costs tend to be about $40-45.  There is a $15  pre-registration fee for each course.  Sit-ins are charged $40.

Application for Admission must be made to MNSM.  This is done by completing the Admissions Application and returning it and the $10 admissions fee to the office of MNSM. Prospective students must have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.  Transcripts must be sent to MNSM.  Those sending college transcripts need not have a high school transcript sent. Those taking courses in English must be proficient in the language.

Faculty Members hold at least a Master’s Degree in the subject matter they teach.  Most faculty members are also experienced pastors.

An Academic Portfolio of course work at MNSM may be kept by students who wish to enroll  at Nazarene Bible College (on-line or on campus).  While courses are taught at a  college level, MNSM is not an accredited institution.  However, as a member of  the Alliance for Ministry Training Centers, MNSM’s curriculum conforms to the standards of Nazarene Bible College.  For that reason, students can petition for academic credit from NBC for the work they have doneat MNSM.  To receive credit, students must have kept an academic portfolio which would include syllabi, tests and papers, and other documentation that evidences the quality of the student’s  work.  An evaluation fee is charged by NBC.  For more information go to the NBC  website - http://alliance.nbc.edu/.

Educational Credit for Ordination in the Church of the Nazarene can be received by the  successful completion of MNSM courses.  Those seeking ordination must indicate  their desire tobe enrolled in the Course of Study their Admission Application.  Students are eligible for enrollment in the Course of Study after:

(1) their pastor completes and returns to MNSM the Pastor's Recommendation Form;
(2)  the receipt of a Local Preacher's License by their church;
(3) the  successful completion of three courses;
(4) approval by the Metro New York District Board of Ministerial Studies. 

MNSM will  automatically transfer records to the Board of Ministerial Studies.  A few  courses required for Deacon ordination are not part of the regular MNSM schedule of courses.  These are taught as directed studies when needed.  To continue in the Course of Study, students need to successively complete two courses each year and complete all work in ten years.  Students for whom English is a second language, need to demonstrate proficiency in English before  ordination.

Some students enrolled in the Course of Study may take courses from other institutions. They should be aware of the following:

(1) only courses from accredited institutions will be considered;
(2) completion of a degree from any institution (including Nazarene institutions) does not necessarily mean all ordination requirements have been fulfilled (students should consult the requirements of the Course of Study curriculum and the Secretary of the Board of Ministerial Studies about such course work ).  
(3) Students should have transcripts from other institutions sent to MNSM by March 1 each year.

Those seeking  ordination in the Church of the Nazarene should read carefully the pertinent Manual paragraphs concerning the calling and requirements for such  ministry and obtain a copy of the Sourcebook for Ministerial  Development. 

Lay Ministry Certificates are offered to students who take MNSM courses to enrich their
ministry as laypersons.  A Lay Ministry Certificate is offered after the completion of one Old and one New Testament course, one theology course, Introduction to Teaching Ministries, Evangelism, History and Manual of the Church of the Nazarene, and one elective.
